The Governmental Affairs Division is responsible for serving as governmental and legislative liaison for the Department with other entities of local, state and federal government as well as business and labor groups. This division is also responsible for drafting departmental legislation.

The legislative branch of State Government consists of the Alabama House of Representatives and the Alabama Senate. The Department of Industrial Relations works closely with the legislature to pass legislation beneficial to the Department and the people of Alabama.
